Finding the right school makes a huge difference in a child’s life. The right school can ignite your child’s curiosity, build character strengths like kindness and persistence, and help your child develop the knowledge and skills they need to thrive.
But how do you find that right school? Should you choose public or private? Language immersion? Progressive or traditional? The faraway school with the higher test scores, or the nearby school with the stronger community?
I’m Bill Jackson. As the founder of GreatSchools, I’ve helped millions of parents learn about schools. I’ve visited hundreds of schools and explored the strengths and weaknesses of different types. I understand the ins and outs of public and private school admissions. I have a national network of educators and parents that gives me an insider perspective on schools.
My own education has informed my vision of learning excellence. I graduated from Yale University (B.S. Engineering) after attending Phillips Exeter Academy. I learned a great deal from leadership programs run by the National Outdoor Leadership School, U.S. Marine Corps, and Coro. You can learn more about my perspective on education from my articles.
I’ve also learned by shepherding my own daughters through K-12 schools. Over the past dozen years, they have attended six different public, independent and parochial schools in San Francisco. Some of them were a great fit, others not so much. Now, my oldest daughter is a freshman at the University of Chicago.
When you work with me, I draw on all my experience to help you find the right school for your child. You’ll deepen your understanding of education, explore how your child’s unique characteristics might factor into your search, discover school options you didn’t know existed, sharpen your ability to evaluate schools, and bolster your chances for admission into the school you want.
And, at the end of the process, you will have the pleasure of watching your child grow and thrive at a great school.
